Pocari brushes off UST, moves closer to Finals berth

Pocari Sweat showed off its veteran savvy and made quick work of University of Santo Tomas, 25-16, 25-18, 25-22, in the semifinals of the Shakey’s V-League Reinforced Conference Saturday at Philsports Arena.

Breanna Mackie had 19 points to lead the Lady Warriors as they took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series.

Pocari head coach Rommel Abella said his team’s experience against the younger Golden Tigresses would prove useful in their three-game series.

“Yun talaga ang magdadala sa amin sa panalo, nag-work siya ngayon and hopefully mag-work siya ulit on Monday,” said Abella. “Hopefully, start namin ganoon pa rin. Yung intensity ng game namin at ng mga players sana ganoon pa rin. Sila rin naman kasi nakita namin na gusto talaga nilang manalo eh.”

Pocari enjoys the leadership of Michele Gumabao and Melissa Gohing who have played with each other since their college days at De La Salle University.

Gumabao and Andrea Kacsits also finished in double figures for Pocari with 10 points apiece.

Cherry Rondina led UST with 12.
