Pocari Sweat booked a return trip to the Finals after nipping University of Santo Tomas in five gruelling sets, 25-17, 24-26, 26-24, 27-25, 15-8, Monday in the Shakey’s V-League Season 13 Reinforced Conference at Philsports Arena in Pasig.

Breanna Mackie powered the Lady Warriors in the gritty victory with 35 points, 32 from kills, two service aces, and a block, while Myla Pablo got all of her 11 markers off hits.

“A win is a win, well take it no matter what. Whether it’s three-sets, four-sets, or five sets, a win is a win,” said coach Rommel Abella.

Leading two sets to one, Pocari Sweat went on a sluggish run in the fourth set as UST gave its all to push the Lady Warriors to their limits.

But Mackie imposed her will in the decider as Pocari established its dominance, ending the game with a Michele Gumabao ace to complete the sweep of the Tigresses.

Abella admitted Pocari Sweat got a little bit complacent after taking the 2-1 set lead.

“It’s more sa mindset. Medyo nag-relax lang kami pero buti nakabawi kami nung fifth set. We’re the more veteran team, we’re the more experienced team so we know how to win the fifth set. Buti na lang lumabas sa dulo.”

Gumabao and Elaine Kasilag both contributed eight points in the win.

EJ Laure topped a valiant UST side with 24 points, while Cherry Rondina poured 17 in the loss.
