For Pocari Sweat, the best offense is defense. And that’s what it plans to use all the way to the championship.

With a defensive ploy not even Customs’ prolific gunner Alyssa Valdez can penetrate, Pocari shoots for a sweep of the best-of-three finals of the Shakey’s V-League Reinforced Conference today at Philsports Arena.

“Our strength is really in blocking,” said Pocari coach Rommel Abella. “We know it’s our ticket to the championship.”

The Lady Warriors posted 15 blocks in the opener which stymied the usually binge-scoring Valdez, who only scored 12 points. Thai spiker Kanjana Kuthaisong was also limited to eight.

Now only one win separates Pocari from capturing its second straight conference and stamping its dominance of the league right on its first season.

“The only thing that will prevent us from winning this championship is complacency,” said Pocari Sweat team captain Michelle Gumabao.
“If we stay focused and not be overconfident, we’ll get this.”
