Cherry Rondina is no stranger to putting on a show, her energetic acrobatics for University of Santo Tomas have earned her the nickname “Cherry Bomb” and even led her to represent the Philippines in the Asian Club Championships.
On Sunday, Rondina’s antics were once again in full display as she spiked and tumbled her way in a charity game for the benefit of the survivors of supertyphoon “Lawin.”
“Masaya sobra kasi kahit through our skills na binigay ni God nakatulong kami and nagpapasalamat kami kahit papaano, kahit ganun lang malaki yung impact,” said Rondina, who had 13 points for Team Palaban during the charity event.
“Lawin” leveled Cagayan Province late last month that caused that death of more than a dozen people.
As per the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, “Lawin” caused a total of P3,737,721,352.16 as of Oct. 25 and destroyed 13,964 houses.
On her tumbling acts during the game, Rondina said Kung Fu Reyes, her head coach at University of Santo Tomas, told her to do it.
“Sabi kasi ni coach Kung Fu since All-Star naman mas maganda kung pasayahin ko pa mga tao,” said Rondina who admitted to hurt her back after doing her cartwheels. “Sabi niya ‘tumbling ka nga Si’ eh ayaw ko talagang gawin, pero siyempre pag nakita mo si coach mahihiya ka na lang.”
