DAVAO CITY —A new breed of future sports heroes are about to be discovered in the Philippine National Youth Games-Batang Pinoy National Championships.

From among the 13,656 athletes, the Philippine Sports Commission expects to unravel hidden gems in the rough when the Games kick off today at Davao Del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex in Tagum.

“We are focused and committed on grassroots sports development,” said Davao del Norte Gov. Anthony del Rosario, underscoring the objectives of  the weeklong meet for athletes 17 years and under.

FEATURED STORIES

A total of 24 gold medals in swimming will be at stake right on the first day of competitions.

A total of 156 golds from 24 sports will be up for grabs.

Eliminations  in archery, where 48 golds will be contested, as well as in arnis, badminton, baseball, 3-on-3 basketball, boxing, chess and cycling (criterium and individual time trial) also get going.
