Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green missed Saturday’s National Basketball Association game against the Minnesota Timberwolves because of a sprained left ankle.

Coach Steve Kerr said Green suffered the injury in Friday’s win over the Los Angeles Lakers when he collided with teammate Ian Clark in the third quarter.

Green had the ankle X-rayed Saturday and the tests did not show a fracture. But the Warriors decided to hold him out so he would be ready for Monday’s home game against the Atlanta Hawks.

The absence will be Green’s first of the season and first since game five of last year’s NBA finals, a contest he missed because of a suspension for too many fouls.

Clark, who suffered head and throat injuries in the collision, also missed Saturday’s game.

Kevon Looney replaced Green in the starting lineup.
