Conor McGregor’s days as a simultaneous two-division champion are over.
According to Fox Sports, McGregor gave up the UFC featherweight championship as the UFC looked for a last-minute main event after Daniel Cormier dropped out of his light heavyweight title bout against Anthony Johnson on Dec. 10.
With McGregor relinquishing the title, Max Holloway would then face Anthony Pettis for the interim featherweight title in the UFC 206 main event.
Jose Aldo, who won an interim title at UFC 200 against Frankie Edgar, is now considered the undisputed champion until the featherweight division is solidified come 2017.
McGregor has planned to sit out of action until May 2017 as he anticipates the birth of his first child.
Even before McGregor gave up the featherweight title, UFC Dana White had said the Irishman has to give up one of the belts during his long break.
The 28-year-old McGregor won the lightweight title after stopping Eddie Alvarez in UFC 205 two weeks ago at Madison Square Garden in New York.
