ANTIPOLO—-James Yap’s shocking move to Rain or Shine may still ring a different tune to spectators, but the man himself is perfectly at ease with his new orchestra.
The former poster boy of the Star franchise, who had 10 points in his debut for the Elastopainters and made his 1,001st career triple, said he’s moved on from his past club.
“Naka-move on na ako (I have moved on),” said Yap Wednesday at Ynares Center. “Sa buhay basketball hindi naman natin hawak ang mga ganyang bagay. (That’s the basketball life, we don’t have control on these types of things).”
When he was still with Star, Yap faced Rain or Shine three times in the Finals and has a 2-1 record with his current team.
Those two victories was during the then-San Mig Coffee Mixers Grand Slam run.
“Pag sinabing Rain or Shine malakas na team yan, championship team yan (when you say Rain or Shine that’s a championship team),” said Yap.
“Before, nung wala pa ako dito hirap na hirap kaming talunin, buti na lang kahit papaano napunta ako sa magandang team. (When I was still with my former team, we had a hard time beating them and I’m fortunate I was able to get to a good team).”
