Samboy Lim Law makes Guiao happy

NLEX coach Yeng Guiao has all the reason to be happy.

Coach Yeng’s  Republic Act No. 10871 Basic Life Support Training in Schools Act also known as “Samboy Lim Law” which he authored during his term as Pampanga congressman will be strictly implemented in school year 2017-2018 .

The  bill was signed into law before former President Noynoy Aquino stepped down from office in June this year.

Coach Yeng filed the bill in honor of PBA great Samboy  Lim, who collapsed on Nov. 28, 2014 while warming  up before the PBA Legends exhibition game in Pasig City.

According to reports, Samboy was unconscious for 23 minutes before being rushed to the hospital for treatment. Unfortunately he went into coma.

The doctor who attended to Samboy said  had anyone known how to apply CPR within six minutes after he collapsed it could have been avoided.

Under the law all public and private schools all over the country are required to teach high school students  basic life support training or CPR before they graduate.

“High school students will be required to learn how to apply CPR and life support  and how to act on emergencies that will greatly help them save lives,” said Guiao.

Another reason for coach Yeng’s upbeat mood is that they already had their first meeting about NLEX Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program which he said was the No. 1 factor why he accepted the coaching job for the Road Warriors.

The former Pampanga governor and congressman and owner of seven PBA titles was given full control of the program that will allow him to formulate projects for the residents of  Pampanga and nearby provinces like Bulacan, Bataan and Nueva Ecija.

“It’s not all about the money or politics. The CSR program will greatly benefit not only the people of Pampanga but also nearby provinces since the company operates SCTEX and NLEX,” said Guiao.

According to Guiao, what is important is that he would be able to help in another capacity, whether as a politician or not.

Guiao admitted that prior to NLEX‘s offer he was close to signing a contract extension with Rain or Shine. He even told the Elasto Painter’s boss Raymond Yu that maybe this will be his last contract and that he will retire with the team.

But when he saw the Road Warriors offer he changed his mind.
