Danny Kingad wants nothing more than to prove that he’s at par with his brothers from Team Lakay as he fights Eugene Toquero (8-3) in an all-Filipino showdown Friday at ONE Championship: Age of Domination at Mall of Asia Arena.
“I want to beat my opponent and rise up the rankings so I can face the champion,” he said.
The 21-year-old Kingad is undefeated after three fights and after seeing his stablemate Eduard Folayang become ONE lightweight champion earlier this month, he’s even more motivated to keep winning.
“When (Folayang) won the belt, I was inspired by him and I wanted to get to his level and be a champion too,” he said.
But Kingad knows that getting there entails hard work, and he really did his best to prepare for his upcoming fight, where he will be one of the five Team Lakay fighters to enter the cage.
“I knew I had to train hard and I prepared for this fight for months. I know my advantage will be on wrestling and jiu-jitsu because he’s a striker,” he said.
“I’m ready for this. I prepared hard for him so I can get the victory.”
