Mahindra coach Chris Gavina is hopeful his team’s revolving door of players will finally stop.
“I really hope so,” he said.
Still at the cellar after four games, the Floodbuster have already fielded in 19 players in the 2017 PBA Philippine Cup, all of whom have yet to yield a win for the squad.
Not helping that cause is the injury to Gary David, which paved the way for the signing of Jeric Teng.
Gavina said the former Scoring Champion is nursing a left knee injury after just seeing action for a game for Mahindra.
“Right now, Gary is being evaluated by our doctors. We do not know what the structural damage is to his knee or if he might need surgery. If he does need surgery, then he’ll be out of commission for at least four to five weeks,” he said.
“I think he has a minor meniscus tear, which is non-invasive but it’s still gonna take time for him to heal. We’re not gonna force him to come back. If anything, we’re gonna get him 100 percent and ready for our next conference.”
Fortunately for Gavina, Teng is showing signs of promise despite being a late addition to the team.
“Jeric showed a lot these past few days of what he’s capable of. He showed that he’s capable of being a great defender, and once he gets his game legs and his rhythm shots going, I think he’ll be fine.”
Leaning behind Alex Mallari and rookie Joseph Eriobu, Mahindra came close to upsetting defending champion San Miguel, 94-91, on Sunday.
The Floodbuster continue their search for that elusive win on Friday when they take on Ginebra.
