Jamike Jarin is set to become National University’s new head coach.

Sources close to the situation confirmed that the multi-titled mentor will be taking over the post left by coach Eric Altamirano.

Jarin led San Beda to the NCAA Season 92 title  in his second year at helm earlier this year.

He previously mentored the Ateneo Blue Eaglets, where he won eight titles and made 12 Finals appearances in the UAAP juniors division, while also coaching the national under-18 squad back in 2014.

Jarin is just on the second year of his four-year deal in San Beda.

Altamirano, who steered the Bulldogs to the UAAP championship in 2014, the school’s first in 60 years, turned in his resignation last month.

NU fell out of the Final Four for the first time in five years after finishing with a 5-9 record.

Jarin will also be the second reigning NCAA champion coach to leave for a UAAP school, following Aldin Ayo’s transfer to La Salle last year after leading Letran to the promised land.

The NU management has been mum on the situation, though athletic director Chito Loyzaga said in early December that the school will announce the next head coach sometime in January next year.

Letran Knights and NU Bullpups coach Jeff Napa was earlier rumored to be in the shortlist before the school went on and tabbed Jarin.
