Lyceum, San Beda triumph in NCAA Women’s volleyball

Lyceum routed Mapua, 25-16, 25-21, 25-12, Wednesday to jump into joint third alongside Arellano in the NCAA Season 92 women’s volleyball tournament at Filoil Flying V Center.

Skipper Cherilyn Sindayen unloaded a match-best 18 hits, powering the Lady Pirates to a 4-1 record.

The resounding win came a week after it pulled the rug from under defending champion St. Benilde, 25-22, 24-26, 25-18, 20-25, 15-10.

“We’re working especially hard on our defense because we know we will not get that far without it,” said LPU coach Emil Lontoc in Filipino.

In the only other women’s duel, San Beda overpowered Letran, 25-19, 25-13, 25-15, to stay inside the magic four with a 5-2 record.

Neiza Viray led all scorers with 13 points while power-spiking Francesca Racraquin pumped in 12 for the Red Spikers.

The Lady Cardinals and Lady Knights fell to their sixth straight defeat and out of the Final Four.

In men’s action, Mapua turned back Lyceum, 25-18, 25-20, 22-25, 14-25, 15-13, to improve to 3-3 and keep its Final Four bid alive.

The Pirates slid to 2-3.
