Playing his first game for Alaska, Jake Pascual feels right at home with his new squad.

Though he only played a little less than five minutes and finished with two points and a rebound in Alaska’s 81-79 win over Meralco on Wednesday, the former San Beda star could only feel excitement over his future with the Aces.

“I wasn’t expecting anything. I told coach [Alex Compton] that when he lets me play, I’ll be all out. Whatever the team asks me to do, I’ll do it so I can help them win,” he said in Filipino.

Pascual was traded to Alaska from Star last week and he admits he’s still feeling his way with the new environment.

“Honestly, I’m still confused on what to do, but coach gave me a pattern so I could understand the system better. He told me I only need time so I can cope with it,” said Pascual.

But if there’s one thing sitting on Alaska’s bench made him realize, it’s that once your number is called, you have to provide the same energy as everyone on the floor.

“It’s fun to play if the game is like that, and you can see that your teammates are really willing to die for the ball, that even for 50-50 balls, they still dive for it.”

Pascual could also attest to how Calvin Abueva and Vic Manuel’s tireless efforts can easily rub off on the entire team.

“You will feel ashamed if you don’t play 100-percent like them. They really are good examples because they’re like that even in practice.”

Pascual said he’s willing to bide his time until he get his break with the Aces. And when that time comes, he assure Compton that he will give nothing but his best effort for the Aces.

I can’t get it overnight. I know I still need a little more time, but I’ll do my best for the team.”
