It seems a familiar face could return to the Tigers’ lair.

Pido Jarencio is open to getting back his old post as the head coach of University of Santo Tomas if the position ever becomes free.

As per The Varsitarian, the official student publication of UST, the champion coach of 2006 said he’s yet to discuss things over with athletic director Rev. Fr. Ermito De Sagon, OP.

“Kung vacant yung position gusto kong bumalik, gusto kong tulungan UST (If the position’s vacant I would like to return, I want to help UST),” said Jarencio, who himself was a former Glowing Goldie, in the report.

Jarencio was a rookie head coach when he led the bunch of Jervy Cruz, Jojo Duncil, Japs Cuan, and Dylan Ababou to an improbable title run against Ateneo.

He stayed at the position for seven years and steered UST to the UAAP basketball finals two more times.

“Gusto ko na umakyat na uli tayo sa standings, and at the same time ‘yung ma-involve lahat ng estudyante at alumni at ma-encourage natin na manood sila (I want to climb the standings and at the same time I want the students and the alumni to get involved and encourage them to watch our games,” said Jarencio.

Jarencio is currently the alternate governor of Globalport in the PBA.
