With at least two new teams joining, the Philippine Superliga braces for a hectic schedule for 2017 that includes hosting of the inaugural Southeast Asian Superliga in September.
“It’s going to be full calendar for us where we expect to have more teams coming in, more players, more foreign coaches and more spectators,” said PSL president Ramon “Tats” Suzara.
He refused to divulge the teams coming in but hinted at massive player movement in the offseason.
The league will be sending teams to the Thai-Denmark Super League on March 24 to 31 in Bangkok, as well as in the Asian Women’s Club Championship on May 23 to 31 in Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan.
Every weekend of May, the PSL will hold its Beach Volleyball Series. On the same month it will stage the Annual Draft (May 19) and the PSL International Open Challenge Cup (May 23 to 31).
The All-Filipino Conference will be from June 17 to Aug. 27.
The league will take a break to give way for the country’s hosting of the Asian Seniors on Aug. 9 to 17; and the Malaysia Southeast Asian Games on Aug. 19 to 31.
The first SEA Superliga will be on Sept. 14 to 17 with teams from Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand challenging the PSL’s best.
