Mark Borboran tipped in the game-winning basket and Phoenix came back from 26 points down to stun GlobalPort, 101-99, in the 2017 PBA Philippine Cup Wednesday night at Cuneta Astrodome.
Borboran finished with 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field that went with eight rebounds for the Fuel Masters, who trailed, 87-61, with 11:49 remaining.
“It was my fault early in the game, my game plan didn’t work and Terrence was scoring at will,” Phoenix head coach Ariel Vanguardia said. “We made adjustments in the fourth, and good thing we got stops. JC (Intal) and Borbs (Borboran) were big down the stretch.”
Vanguardia added they ran a play for Simon Enciso where he would shoot the corner three with time winding down. Enciso had a great look but just couldn’t get it to fall but fortunately for the Fuel Masters, Borboran was there to tip it back in.
“We had that corner shot for Simon and good thing Borbs was able to tip it in,” added Vanguardia, whose squad moved into fourth with a 4-3 card.
Phoenix outscored Global 40-15 in the final quarter after entering the fourth down by 23, 84-61.
Phoenix rookie Matthew Wright added 19 points while veteran guard Cyrus Baguio scored all of his seven points in the final two minutes and 24 seconds.
Terrence Romeo had 32 points and nine assists for the Batang Pier, who reeled to their second straight setback and slipped to 3-3.
