Foton coach Moro Branislav is expected to come back to the country in the second week of January to prepare the Tornadoes for a tough 2017 season in the Philippine Superliga.
Foton owner Rommel Sytin said the Serbian mentor, who steered Foton to the Grand Prix title early this month, is tasked to hone the Tornadoes amid stronger competition.
Reigning All Filipino champion F2 Logistics and three-time titlist Petron are reportedly beefing up for the season.
Branislav had earlier announced his intention to whip up the Tornadoes into a battle-ready club.
“We need to professionalize, which means we don’t go abroad to play friendly but to really compete,” Branislav said before leaving for Serbia two weeks ago.
He was referring to Foton standout Jaja Santiago, who left for Japan to train with National University in the middle of the Grand Prix.
“When she (Santiago) came back, not in top condition,” said Branislav.
He said Santiago has what it takes to score a million-dollar contract.
“I have a player who just signed a contract for $1 million with Eczasibasi Vitra,” said Branislav of Tijana Boskovic.
F2 Logistics is expected to come intact with the core of UAAP champion La Salle.
Petron is reportedly keen on acquiring Foton’s Cherry Rondina and another middle blocker who will replace CJ Rosario.
