MANILA, Philippines—Shooting the lights out, Barako Bull pulled off a surprising 117-78 whipping of Powerade Sunday in the 2011 PBA Philippine Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Knocking down 14 three pointers, the Energy, which bounced back from a 72-93 loss versus Alaska last November 2, floored the Tigers from the get go and handily doubled the lead by halftime.
Sunday Salvacion authored four triples for a 20-point finish along with five rebounds for Barako Bull, while fleet-footed point guard Paul Artadi pitched in 14 points on a near-perfect six-of-eight shooting.
Veteran guard Willie Miller added 16 points, three rebounds, five assists and two steals.
The Energy, hanging tough at second place with a 5-2 record, built a lead as big as 51 points early in the payoff period with Powerade having no answer to anything they threw.
The Tigers, who have been inconsistent so far this season with dominant wins yet a couple of humbling losses, drew a season-low five points from scoring champion Gary David and only four points from No. 1 overall pick Jvee Casio.
Sean Anthony and Doug Kramer carried Powerade, which is in the middle of the pack with a 3-4 record, by combining for just 25 points.
