Many-time champion Rupert Zaragosa heads a banner international field chasing the prestigious Philippine Amateur golf championship starting this Thursday at Riviera’s Couples course in Silang, Cavite.
Having won every available title in the ranks in a brilliant career that started when he was just 13 years old, the five-foot Zaragosa is tipped as the logical man to beat in the 72-hole championship mainly because of his experience and skills.
“Every tournament is different and you always want to win,” said the 19-year-old Zaragosa, who once held the boy’s and men’s championships at the same time, when asked if he’s still as determined to win again.
One of those most likely to crowd him for the crown is a Japanese who has called the Philippines home.
Yuto Katsuragawa, the reigning Southwoods club champion, is playing very well of late and shares top billing with Zaragosa for the title vacated by Jobim Carlos, who turned pro early last year.
The women’s crown will also be up for grabs, with Harmie Constantino shooting for a repeat.
