Terrence Romeo had no issues working in the background for GlobalPort when it played Meralco on Friday. But when the team needed him the most, he made sure he was there to save the day again.

The super scorer took charge in the fourth period, unloading 12 of his game-high 27 points to preserve the Batang Pier’s 97-89 triumph over the Bolts.

However, the former FEU star said that the win couldn’t be possible if not for his teammates.

“Credit to my teammates and to the coaching staff because they delivered in those crucial moments. They also had good reads especially Stanley and JR because they recognized that the defense collapsed on me.”

With the supporting cast in full control, GlobalPort established an early 16-point lead, 44-28, in the second period before weathering the storm late.

Despite the Bolts’ best efforts, even tying the game at 74 early in the payoff period with a Chris Newsome dunk, Romeo was just too much to handle he exploded in the final quarter to secure the win.

“The option was to set me up. I’m happy because the trust of my coaches are still there during those last minutes. Thank God, we were able to deliver,” he said.

The win ended GlobalPort woes and inched it closer to snagging at least one of the top two spots at the end of the eliminations at 4-3.

“Coach Franz told us that we still hold our fate. If we go all-out, we have a chance for the top two. I think we shouldn’t focus on our opponents. When we’re there on the court, we have to play the right basketball – right offense and right defense. Whatever happens happens.”
