For over a decade, sports officials have been harping on the impact of sports science on the performance of every Filipino athlete.
And yet, only a few have the genuine foresight and ability to train their athletes the scientific way.
The Philippine Sports Commission has put in extra effort to make it available to all national sports associations with the creation of a sports science building at Philsports Complex in Pasig City.
“While we support the quest of NSAs for medals in international tournaments, we would like to take sports science seriously as a provision to help the elite athletes perform at their best,” said PSC Chair Butch Ramirez.
According to Ramirez, preparing the athletes scientifically would give Filipinos a fighting chance against top-caliber athletes in the world.
Philippine Sports Institute national training director Marc Edward Velasco will be at the helm of the program.
