2 PH Gilas teams loom
The proximity and overlapping schedules of the Fiba Asia Cup and the Southeast Asian Games might force the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas to form two Gilas Pilipinas teams.
SBP executive director Sonny Barrios raised this possibility once the Asia Cup on Aug. 15 to 27 pushes through as scheduled and runs in conflict with the SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur on Aug. 19 to 31.
“We’re waiting for the response of Fiba Asia,” said Barrios.
The Gilas Cadet will have PBA rookies Mac Belo, Jio Jalalon, Mike Tolomia and Kevin Ferrer, among others.

They also formed the core of the gold-medal winning squad with Kiefer Ravena and naturalized center Marcus Douthit during the 2015 Singapore Games.
Filipino have been SEA Games champions since 1989.
