Gamutan hattrick tows Arellano to 3rd place in NCAA football

Charles Vincent Gamutan stamped his class and propelled Arellano to a 4-0 victory over Lyceum for third place in NCAA Season 92 men’s football tournament Tuesday at Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

The Chiefs striker took advantage of the Pirates swapping their goalkeeper at the 26th minute as he imposed his will and scored a hattrick.

Gamutan first struck in the 28th minute as he stunned substitute keeper Morrison Monte, who came in for the injured Mellex Andes, to break the ice.

Sensing an advantage, Arellano punished the gutted Lyceum backline as Spencer Galasa made it 2-0 in the 53rd minute.

Gamutan struck anew in the 60th minute, connecting with a chip shot before collecting his third goal in the 79th minute.

The Pirates struggled to make the most of their opportunity, failing to score on their three chances in the second half.

It was a consolation of sorts for Arellano, which failed to defend its crown after winning the championship last year.
