Education must be the top priority for young basketball players.

This is what PBA commissioner Chito Narvasa reminded the young stars in his remarks during the opening ceremonies of the 2017 PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup Thursday at Ynares Sports Arena.

“Many of you are still in college, and some just graduated, but we tell you that education plays a big role in the character formation of basketball players,” he said, urging young ballers to focus on their studies as much as they do on their basketball careers.

With many players moving on to the pros after a successful career in the developmental league, Narvasa hopes this could also serve as motivation for the players.

“You should be inspired because many of the players that came from the D-League and are now in the PBA are doing very well. The transition to the PBA was very fantastic and I think it’s all because of the PBA D-League.”

Ten teams will be participating in the season-opening conference, with AMA Online Education and Batangas starting off the festivities as of press time.

“May the best team win, and I hope you do the best you can so we can prepare you to the PBA,” Narvasa said in closing.

PBA Board treasurer and Alaska governor Dickie Bachmann declared the games open.
