LOOK: Mayweather mocks McGregor’s net worth on Twitter

Although a potential crossover match up between pound-for-pound boxing icon Floyd Mayweather Jr. and UFC superstar Conor McGregor is still nowhere close to fruition, the former has continued to ignite their rivalry through Twitter.

The undefeated fighter once again threw shade at his Irish counterpart on Thursday (Friday in Manila) by ruthlessly pointing out his net worth and comparing it to his own.

“Before you ask for $25M, be worth more than $25M,” the retired 39-year-old wrote. “You have the ‘2’ and the ‘5’ right but you meant to say $2.5M not $25M.”

The tweet comes just a week after UFC president Dana White proposed a $25 million-each payday to both combatants for a sanctioned boxing showdown, along with a cut of the pay-per-view profits from their proposed super fight.

After laughing off the UFC executive’s offer, the ever-brash Mayweather couldn’t resist the urge to point out the fact that his figure was 10 times more than McGregor’s reported net worth.

However, according to the latest Forbes estimate, Mayweather’s net worth since retiring is closer to around $340 million, while it states McGregor’s at $22 million.

The figures seem much closer to reality for both fighters, especially for the MMA superstar who reportedly took home as much as $15 million from the UFC 202 match-up last August, and roughly the same amount against Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 last November.

It is also worth noting that Floyd’s lucrative career spans over 19 years, while McGregor only rose to prominence after joining the UFC in 2013.

Either way, the potential match-up has stirred quite an interest from both the boxing and MMA community, and will most likely become the biggest fight in combat sports history – if it somehow becomes a reality. Khristian Ibarrola
