Slowly but surely playing to its potential, Alab Pilipinas tries to extend its winning streak when it clashes with Hong Kong Eastern Long Lions for the first time in the Asean Basketball League at Southorn Stadium in Wan Chai, Hong Kong.
The Filipinos are gunning for their fourth straight victory in the 8 p.m. clash with the Long Lions that will also serve as a tiebreaker for second spot as both teams hold identical 5-2 records.
The Singapore Slingers are still on top with an 8-2 record, with both of its losses coming at the hands of Alab and Hong Kong.
After relying heavily on Ray Parks early in the tournament, Alab coach Ronald Mac Cuan has seen Jeric Fortuna, Lawrence Domingo and JR Cawaling step up in the last two games against the Slingers and Westports Malaysia Dragons.
But Cuan said the showdown with the Long Lions will be a gauge of how well his team is playing at this point of the season.
“It’s a big game for us because Hong Kong is up there in the standings,” said Cuan, who hopes to squeeze out better games from imports Sampson Carter and James Hughes.
