HONG KONG — Firing on all cylinders early, the Hong Kong Eastern Long Lions pummeled Alab Pilipinas, 93-80, Sunday night to seize solo second in the Asean Basketball League at Southorn Stadium here.

Marcus Elliot fired 27 points while Tyler Lamb tallied 23 points as the Long Lions used a big second quarter run to pull away on their way to their sixth win in eight games.

Sloppy and indecisive with its execution, Alab fell to its third defeat in eight games for solo third spot.

The Filipinos trailed by as many as 29 points in the third period, before mounting a late run when the Long Lions sent in their third stringers.

Playing its first game here, Alab scored eight of the game’s first 11 points, before Elliot buckled down to work, ending the first half with 21 points.

Alab failed to stem the tide in the third as the Filipinos’ guns fell silent in the face of the Long Lions’ pressure defense.

Ray Parks had 23 points to lead Alab while import James Hughes added 19 points. It was another subpar game from Alab’s other import, Sampson Carter, who was held to seven points.

Alab tries to bounce back against Saigon Heat on Friday at Olivarez Gym in Paranaque.

The Long Lions also snapped Alab’s three game winning streak that included road victories over Kaohsiung Truth and Westports Malaysia Dragons.
