PH athletes invited to join Arafura Games revival
The Philippines has been tapped to contend with the toughest athletes from the US, England, Germany and Brazil in the Arafura Games.
In a recent meeting between Filipino and Australian officials, Philippine Sports Commission executive assistant Ronnel Abrenica said the Philippines is among the countries invited to play in the projected revival of the Games in 2019.
“They want to bring back the Games come 2019,” said Abrenica.
Article continues after this advertisementThe Arafura Games, the only multisport meet that pits athletes with disabilities against able-bodied ones, was last held in 2011 in Darwin, Australia, with 40 countries competing.
It was shelved starting in 2013 due to monetary problems. —JUNE NAVARRO
