Tiongson’s 32 points propel AMA past Cignal-San Beda

Juami Tiongson exploded for 32 points as AMA Online Education stayed unscathed in the 2017 D-League Aspirants’ Cup, outhustling Cignal-San Beda, 94-85, Tuesday at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

The former Ateneo playmaker led the fourth quarter pullaway for the Titans, firing 12 markers in the payoff period. He went on a 10-of-16 shooting from the field while also registering six rebounds and three assists.

“I talked to Juami before the game. We know how big Diego (Dario)’s loss is and I asked him that he has to make the most of his extra minutes,” said coach Mark Herrera. “I’m happy, but I’m not surprised because he’s one of our leaders.”

Jeron Teng added 16 markers and 15 boards, while PJ Barua added 13.

Genmar Bragais also provided the spark as he finished with 10 points and eight rebounds for AMA, which stayed on top early at 2-0.

The Titans broke off from a close 61-60 Cignal lead and went on a 21-6 tear bridging the final two frames for a commanding 81-67 edge.

Davon Potts wound up with 18 points and two rebounds for the Hawkeyes, while Mark Bringas had 14 markers.

Jason Perkins also got 13 points and 10 boards in the loss.
