JRU bombers thwart tough Batangueños
Jose Rizal University fended off a tough Batangas crew, 70-65, to grab its second win in the 2017 PBA D-League Aspirants Cup Thursday at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
Ervin Grospe came up big for the Heavy Bombers, showing the way for his side with 20 points and three rebounds.
Tey Teodoro also had 18 points, seven of which came in the third quarter where JRU erected an 11-point lead, 53-42, midway through the period.
“Just like every time, I tell my players to keep playing. Our defense today was a big improvement compared to our last game,” said coach Vergel Meneses.
The Heavy Bombers went up 2-0, joining AMA Online Education as early league leaders this conference.
In the other game, Wangs opened its campaign with a 92-83 triumph over Victoria Sports-MLQU.
Marlon Gomez and John Tambeling fired 17 points each for the Couriers.
Joseph Sedurifa kept the Batangueños in the game, getting to as close as three, 61-58, midway in the fourth.
