Inquirer Sports performer of the week: Jeff Chan

The Marksman. Rain or Shine's Jeff Chan.

MANILA, Philippines—Jeff Chan just couldn’t help but flaunt his lethal range.

Averaging 24 points in Rain or Shine’s last two triumphs, Chan emerged as Inquirer Sports’ Performer of the Week from Oct. 30 to Nov. 7.

Though more than half of the squad have risen to the occasion, Chan’s consistency in scoring is a hard-to-miss factor in Rain or Shine’s rousing 6-1 start.

“Jeff Chan is the most consistent for us, offensively,” said the squad’s mercurial head coach Yeng Guiao. “The role of our players is well defined.”

And the 28-year-old lefty surely knows how to step up and change the complexion of the game for Rain or Shine with his piercing triples.

Chan, drafted 17th overall in 2008 by Red Bull, put on a shooting clinic as he poured 23 points in 20 minutes in the Elasto Painters’ 139-95 rout of the Meralco Bolts, where he also authored four of the squad’s franchise-best 22 three pointers.

But the reign of treys didn’t stop there.

Chan’s hot hands aided him in posting a new career-best of 28 points—built around four three pointers and a 72 percent shooting clip—in the 96-75 triumph over Shopinas.com.

The former Far Eastern University standout poured 17 of his total points in the defining third quarter assault which doused the fight out of the still-winless Clickers.

With his sweet stroke, Chan is leading the league both in three points made and in three-point percentage with a total of 22 triples and 54 percent respectively.

Chan is currently second in scoring with 18.4 points per game, behind back-to-back scoring champion Gary David of Powerade.

Chan edged San Beda Red Cubs’ finals MVP Francis Abarcar for the weekly citation.
