Jovelyn Gonzaga has been a staple in Philippine volleyball for the past few years.
Whether it’s wearing the Philippines’ colors or representing a club team, Gonzaga has always been front and center as one of the country’s mainstays.
Yet Gonzaga doesn’t see her previous inclusions with the national team as an automatic ticket in this year’s pool.
“No because you always have to show growth every time you play and I can’t just rely on what I have attained because there are still other players who have improved,” said Gonzaga in Filipino on Sunday at Arellano Gym.
Experience is one of the greatest intangibles Gonzaga can bring to the pool if she’s selected as she has represented the Philippines in the AVC Asian Women’s Club Championships and the FIVB Women’s Club World Championship.
She’s also captained the Philippines in the 2015 Southeast Asian Games.
Gonzaga knows there are expectations surrounding her every move in the volleyball scene, she’s aware that she has to meet those in order for her to succeed.
“I’m competing with what I was before, so that I can meet those expectations the people have put on me,” said Gonzaga.
