UAAP: La Salle begins baseball title defense with rout of UP

Tuwi Park fired a three-run homer as De La Salle opened its title defense with a 19-1 rout of University of the PhilippinesSunday in the UAAP baseball tournament.

The Green Batters displayed a tremendous batting clinic to finish off the Fighting Maroons in only seven innings at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.

UP, meanwhile, took the early lead in softball as it blanked University of the East, 11-5, and edged Ateneo, 6-5, in succession.

MJ Abanes delivered a solo homer in the first inning as the Lady Maroons overcame a late fightback by the vastly-improved Lady Eagles to book their second win yesterday.

The Lady Bulldogs fell at 1-1 in a tie with the Lady Warriors, while the Lady Archers and the Lady Eagles suffered their second straight loss.

In other baseball results, last season’s runner-up Ateneo carved out an abbreviated 12-2 victory over University of Santo Tomas while NU bested Adamson, 7-5.
