MANILA, Philippines—Two new basketball projects geared at improving the level of the sport in the country are slated this month.
The first Seaoil National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) Elite League Coaches Convention is set November 11 to 13 at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila with some 200 coaches expected to join.
The launch of the “Higanteng Magilas Point Guard Academy,” a project of the Lina Group of Companies (LGC) that is aimed at transforming tall, young players into better playmakers is also slated November 21.
The two projects were announced by NBTC executive director Alex Compton and LGC sports marketing manager Allan Gregorio in Tuesday’s PSA Forum at the Shakey’s UN Avenue in Manila.
Gregorio said the talent-search program will be focused on the 8- to 12-years-old age bracket.
“We hope we can find and polish 6-foot-5 point guards to represent the country in international tournaments,” said Gregorio.
