Far Eastern University notched its first win in the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament after clobbering Adamson, 25-12, 25-19, 25-16, Wednesday at San Juan Arena.

Bernadeth Pons’ drop ball closed the deal for the Lady Tamaraws as they moved to 1-1 while the Lady Falcons slid to 0-2.

Though it was a virtual cakewalk, FEU head coach Shaq Delos Santos still saw some lapses especially when the Lady Tamaraws failed to quickly close out the Lady Falcons in the second set.

“There are still lapses, and I think we just have to push the girls further,” said Delos Santos. “The support players have to step up and that didn’t happen in the second set, hopefully those guys will click.”

FEU was up 22-15 and was on the verge of winning the middle set but the Lady Falcons were persistent enough to score four more points to extend the set a little bit longer.

The Lady Tamaraws outscored the Lady Falcons 38-22 in spikes and also had a distinct advantage in blocks, 9-2.

Pons had a game-high 15 points to pace the Lady Tamaraws while Remy Palma added 13.

Toni Rose Basas also made her presence felt for FEU with nine points while setter Maria Cayuna had eight.

Bernadette Flora had nine points to lead Adamson while Jema Galanza had eight.
