Alyssa Valdez may be a superstar hereabouts. But playing in a country that is the region’s volleyball hotbed has forced her to readjust her expectations.

“It’s just a great experience for me and hopefully I will learn a lot from these games,” Valdez wrote in a message to INQUIRER.net.

The former Ateneo Lady Eagle started in her debut match in the Thailand league for 3BB Nakornnont but sat on the bench for much of the game as Bangkok Glass took the victory, 25-19, 25-19, 25-20, in its home floor.

Valdez made history as the first Filipino to play as an import in Thailand.

“Being an import, for me, means you have to work double time to meet the demands and adjust well to the culture and how your team plays,” she wrote.

Bangkok Glass has been the Thai representative in two international tournaments in 2016, which the country hosted.

The Glass Rabbits bannered Thailand in the AVC Asian Women’s Club Championship, which was played in Laguna, and in the FIVB Women’s Club World Championship in Manila.
