The scheduled elections of the Philippine Tennis Association ended in a deuce Wednesday after the board didn’t agree on the terms of the polls.
Philta president Salvador “Buddy” Andrada and secretary general Romeo Magat insisted on excluding the position of president from the vote.
But the group of chair Jean Henri Lhuillier and vice president Randy Villanueva maintained that the Philta should hold general elections as agreed upon during a previous board meeting.
“These circumstances were actually violative of Philta by-laws and renders Andrada’s Philta presidency invalid and illegitimate,” said Lhuillier.
Andrada promised to step down once a general elections is held, a vow he made in a meeting attended by International Tennis Federation president David Haggerty and Philippine Olympic Committee president Jose “Peping” Cojuangco Jr. last year.
Cojuangco did not comment on the issue, saying he has not received a formal report yet.
Villanuena will seek legal remedies and file a complaint with the ITF, POC and the Philippine Sports Commission.
PSC chair Butch Ramirez had earlier threatened to cut the funding to national sports associations which have leadership disputes.
