With streak over, real test is how Beermen recover

Despite an off shooting night for San Miguel, the Beermen actually had a chance to steal the win in the end game.

With 6.2 seconds remaining and possession with San Miguel, Alex Cabagnot and Arwind Santos tried to make a something happen but were both denied by the TNT defense en route to the 87-85 loss in Game 2.

Instead of beating himself up, Santos chose to look at the Beermen’s missed chance as half glass full.

“Our shots just weren’t falling. We’re glad because even though we played that bad, we still almost won,” said Santos in Filipino.

“I didn’t had enough space to make a shot. It’s how it is. Maybe the game was really for them.”

TNT’s victory ended the Beermen’s 11-game winning streak and tied the best-of-seven series at 1-1.

Santos admitted that he knew the impressive run was bound to eventually and the onus is on the Beermen to recover from it, especially with a Finals berth at stake.

“It’s just natural that you stumble from time to time. Like what they say, all heroes experience failures. All great players, even Michael Jordan, they still fail. Sometimes, we need to fail. We need to learn how to bounce back. That’s the important thing. When you fail, when you stumble, you know how to stand up again.”

Game 3 is on Sunday and Santos is confident that his Beermen can make the adjustments to get back on the winning track.

“They just tied the series. It’s now a best-of-5. We’ll plan to get the win again,” he said.
