And even after an impressive four-set victory over the UST Tigresses, the Lady Spikers still failed to measure up to their mentor’s lofty standards.
“Our core before is now gone and right now we still have so many areas that we need to fix if ever we want to match the level we were in last year,” said De Jesus.
The defending champion rose to 2-0 with a 25-23, 16-25, 25-14, 25-22 victory over UST Saturday at San Juan Arena.
The Lady Spikers joined National U and University of the Philippines atop the standings of the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament.
The Lady Maroons forged a 25-16, 26-24, 25-19 victory over University of the East in the first game.
The Lady Warriors and the Tigresses dropped to 0-2.
La Salle opened up an 18-5 lead in the fourth set and were headed toward wrapping up the win when UST came back strong to peg the count at 22-20.
Kim Dy connected on a quick hit to buy the Lady Spikers a little breathing room before returning Desiree Cheng sealed the match for the Lady Spikers.
