National University continued to lord it over UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball after fending off Adamson University, 25-15, 25-22, 25-19, on Sunday at Filoil Flying V Centre.
Despite the straight-sets win and a 3-0 card, NU coach Roger Gorayeb could not hide his frustration over their lackadaisical second set that almost went Adamson’s way.
“Maybe they’re thinking that because our opponents have yet to win, this would be an easy game,” said Gorayeb. “I always remind them that there are no weak teams here.”
NU’s Jaja Santiago, despite sitting out most of the third set because of a hurting left knee, led all scorers with 15 points.
Meanwhile, Ateneo logged its second win in three starts at the expense of Far Eastern U, 25-19, 24-26, 19-25, 25-16, 15-11.
The Lady Eagles played sans head coach Tai Bundit who flew home to Thailand due to the death of his mother-in-law.
Ateneo’s Kim Gequillana finished the match with a service ace while Jhoana Maraguinot and Mich Morente combined for 35 points for the Lady Eagles. —BONG LOZADA, INQUIRER.NET
