La Salle recovers, blasts NU in three sets

De La Salle went back to winning ways and swept National University, 29-27, 25-16, 25-21, for its third victory in the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament Sunday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The defending champions improved to 3-1 and snapped the Lady Bulldogs’ three-game win streak.

The Lady Archers’ win created a three-way tie in second with NU and Ateneo joining them with 3-1 records behind undefeated University of the Philippines.

Tin Tiamzon went off for La Salle scoring a game-high 17 points while rookie Aduke Ogunsanya held her own against Jaja Santiago as the middle blocker put up 11.

Kim Dy also produced for the Lady Spikers with nine points.

Santiago, who has been averaging over 20 points a game, was held to 13 points and just one of those points came off a kill block.

La Salle had the edge in all of the game’s scoring areas with distinct advantages in spikes, 34-25, blocks, 9-1, and service aces, 14-5.
