University of Santo Tomas head coach Kung Fu Reyes took full responsibility of his team’s third loss in four games in the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament Sunday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Golden Tigresses’ are off to a horrible start with a 1-3 slate, the second-worst in the league, and their latest loss was a four-set disappointment against league leaders University of the Philippines, 25-22, 25-22, 29-31, 25-19.
“I think I read the game wrong, and there was still chances where I could’ve corrected it,” said Reyes.
Reyes’ misjudgment was allowing libero Patricia Rasmo to be the subject of the Lady Maroons’ offensive onslaught.
Though UST had the slim advantage in terms of spikes, 45-44, the Lady Maroons bombarded Reyes’ side with 15 service aces, and that figure is far too high for Reyes, whose Golden Tigresses managed just five.
“That number is pretty big,” said Reyes who decided to change things up in a big way putting in Chloe Cortez to stay in his backline.
“That’s the only thing we lost [service aces] and that really hurt us coaches because our two liberos weren’t able to handle that much pressure from UP,” said Reyes.
