Jaworski reminds Ginebra: ‘You haven’t achieved anything yet’

After Ginebra advanced to the 2017 PBA Philippine Cup Finals, PBA legend Robert “Sonny” Jaworski was quick to put the Gin Kings’ feet back on the ground.

“I congratulated them, but they haven’t achieved anything yet. You got to work hard, prepare, think of who your opponent is, and analyze whatever you’re lacking, look at their strong points and work against that. It’s their desire for the game,” he said.

Jaworski watched Ginebra trump Star, 89-76, in their Game 7 tussle Tuesday at Mall of Asia Arena as the crowd favorites booked a championship date against defending champion San Miguel.

But the former senator told the Ginebra players to not get too ahead of themselves and focus on the job at hand as they eye to end the franchise’s 10-year all-Filipino Cup title drought.

“You won the game to enter what you want to achieve. It’s just a step, but there’s still so many steps you got to do,” he said.

Asked about his thoughts on the Finals duel between Ginebra and San Miguel, Jaworski believes that it’s a series too close to call.

“It’s a toss,” he said. “The team that wants it will make it. Both have talents in positions and they could really capitalize on.”

Though he’s expected to be biased towards Ginebra, Jaworski opted to keep his Finals predictions to his own.

“You want me to tell you who will win? That’s a $64,000 question,” he said, as he left the venue with a smile.

Game 1 of the 2017 PBA Philippine Cup Finals begin on Friday at Mall of Asia Arena.
