Though it may seem as a shock to some, Robert Bolick has emerged as a solid cornerstone for Cignal-San Beda this 2017 PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup.
Under the guidance of coach Boyet Fernandez, the 6-foot-1 guard has been a vital cog so far this conference for the Hawkeyes, averaging 11.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.8 assists.
And on Thursday, Bolick weaved his magic anew, leading Cignal to an 85-71 victory over Tanduay as he finished with 23 points, three rebounds, three assists, and a block in his 23 minutes on the floor to keep his team at second place with a 5-1 record.
But for the 21-year-old, his good showing should be attributed to him playing within Fernandez’s tried and tested system.
“I just played within our offense and within the flow of our attack,” he said. “I know I can do that and I just played through my strengths. Happily, that’s what happened to me.”
As positive as this stint is for Bolick, he knows that he still has tons to improve on his game as he and his fellow Red Lions use this Cignal campaign in preparation for San Beda’s NCAA Season 93 title retention bid.
“We still have to improve our defense as well as our fluidity in offense,” he said. “Sometimes, we’re not able to follow our gameplan so we have to really follow coach Boyet’s orders.”
“Hopefully in the next games, we can continue improving,” he added. “It’s also a credit to our coaches for preparing us well in our games.”
