BORACAY ISLAND—Antipodes launched a brazen attack Friday to keep Centennial III from completely monopolizing the 8th Standard Insurance Boracay Cup Regatta 2017.
Skippered by British Geoff Hill, Antipodes tamed the strong winds off the coast of this island paradise to snatch victory in the fourth race that sailed as far as Carabao Island, covering 30 nautical miles.
That Antipodes surge temporarily stopped Centennial III of Judes Echauz from claiming the overall title outright.
Backed by an all-Filipino crew, Echauz and Centennial III topped the first three races the previous days after capturing the Subic to Boracay race early this week.
With two races left, Centennial III could seal its third straight win Saturday in the annual regatta grand prix.
Despite letting the fourth race slip away, the Filipinos remained in control from the rest of the field in the IRC Racing Class I with Antipodes placing second overall while Karakoa of Rey Ordovez and Jelik of Hong Kong steel magnate Frank Pong placed third and fourth, respectively.
