LUCENA—Basketball won’t be away from Quezon for long.
Lucena was announced as one of the three venues for this year’s PBA All-Star Weekend.
No less than Quezon governor Jayjay Suarez bared the news in front of a packed crowd at halftime of Game 2 of the 2017 PBA Philippine Cup Finals at Quezon Convention Center.
PBA media bureau chief Willie Marcial also announced Cagayan de Oro and Cebu as the other sites of the three-leg midseason extravaganza, which has Gilas Pilipinas playing in all three venues.
The All-Star week tips off on Cagayan de Oro on April 26, where Mindanao ballers play against the Nationals. Midsayap, North Cotabato-born Mac Belo and other Mindanaoan players in the Gilas pool will see action for the PBA All-Stars.
The spectacle will then fly to Lucena on April 28, where Luzon-born players take on Gilas.
There, players like Calvin Abueva and Jayson Castro from Pampanga will be donning for the PBA All-Stars against their fellow Gilas poolmates.
Side events like Obstacle Challenge, Three-Point Shootout, and Slam Dunk Contest will also be held in Lucena.
Cebu caps off the nationwide event on April 30, where stars from Visayas led by three-time PBA Most Valuable Player June Mar Fajardo, and other Visayan cagers, will be facing off against Gilas Pilipinas.
