Lascuña likes low Open rank

Antonio Lascuña may be the reigning Philippine Golf Tour Order of Merit champion, but when it comes to the Solaire Philippine Open slated March 2 to 5, he is out of the favorites’ circle.

Reason, of course, is that the venue of the $400,000-event, The Country Club in Santa Rosa, Laguna, favors the power-hitters, especially the Asian Tour campaigners.

“Given the TCC’s length, the long-hitters have the advantage,” said Lascuña, who at 46 has traded length for accuracy.

Still, the winningest player on the local tour the last five years believes he still got what it takes to win big-time tournaments, particularly the one missing from his trophy collection.

Lascuña’s best finish in Asia’s oldest National Open was joint second in the 2014 Wack Wack edition won by Australian Marcus Both.
