Lopsided win caps Mighty Sports’ Dubai stint
Gary David rediscovered his shooting touch as Mighty Sports-Philippines wound up its stint in the 28th Dubai International Basketball Championship with a 94-80 victory over local side Ball Above All on Thursday.
A four-time scoring champion in the PBA, David scored all his 15 points from three-point zone in the fourth quarter to help Mighty Sports end a five-game losing streak.
Jeron Teng also sparkled for the PH club backed by Rain or Shine and Scratch It with 22 points, four rebounds and an assist, complementing the effort of import J ustin Brownlee, who topscored with 25.
Article continues after this advertisement“They gave their all for the team and for the Filipino community here,” said coach Charles Tiu. “We could have won at least two games if we had more practice.”
David opened the final frame with back-to-back triples before Ryan Araña scored on back-to-back drives, giving Mighty a 73-69 lead.
After David buried his fifth triple, JC Intal sealed the outcome with a putback, 88-75, a little over a minute left. —ROY LUARCA
