Jose Rizal University couldn’t have picked a better team to beat to end its slide.

Ranged against the only unbeaten squad in the 2017 PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup, the Heavy Bombers refused to crack under pressure as they stunned the Racal Tile Masters, 77-75, Monday to stay in the hunt for a quarterfinal berth at JCSGO Gym in Cubao, Quezon City.

Tey Teodoro scored 20 points, including a bank shot with under a minute left that proved to be the marginal basket, as the Bombers hung on to end a three-game skid and even their card at 3-3 for a share of fifth place with Tanduay.

The result forced a three-way tie at top spot with the Tile Masters, who fell to 5-1, now sharing the lead with idle Cafe France and Cignal-San Beda.

Wangs Basketball, powered by former Letran standouts Von Tambeling and Rey Publico, also ended its own skid by pulling off a 98-93 reversal over AMA Online Education in the first game.

Tambeling finished with 21 points on a 5-of-8 clip from beyond the arc, while Publico (18 points) and John Tayongtong (16 points) also delivered for the Couriers.
